Bottle Feeding

He tried the bottle again today, and was a little more successful. Mommy even got to feed him for a little while. He ate 5 ccs which is about 1 teaspoon. Carter has to use a bottle called the Haberman feeder. We have to actually squeeze the milk into the back of his throat. I put a picture of one below. It's going to take a little while to get used to, but we'll get the hang of it soon. A therapist is going to feed him from the bottle again tomorrow, and then we will be trained on how to use it on Friday. They want us to administer one bottle feeding per day throughout the weekend.

He's also being dressed in clothes again to keep his body temperature up. His night nurse was hoping to get him into a crib tonight, but we're not sure if that's going to happen yet. I also had a meeting with the coordinator of early intervention. Early intervention is a program through the school district where a therapist will come to our house twice a month to teach us different exercises and things to do to help Carter developmentally. We're excited to get started on that stuff. Here's a new video from today. Notice how far the sleeves are rolled up...it's a size newborn!

We used the Haberman's with Camden exclusively for the first 8 months. He had a g-tube for the bulk of his nutrition but we were trying to teach him to suck and eat by mouth. It's really easy, you'll get the hang of it quickly. It was a lifesaver for us, Camden would tire out after 3-4 sucks.

He's so cute, I pink puffy heart him and all his cuteness!

WOW!! Carter is doing so great! Step by step he's getting closer to going home every day! That is so exciting.

I know you know that Abby has a g-tube but if you have any questions, I'm happy to answer. Your attitude about it is great and I agree with "Snarky Mom", it is super easy!

Continued love and prayers!!

Pumpkin Schmumpkin!!! I love him! I can't watch the video on this computer, but will as soon as possible! So glad you're able to start feeding him!

ahhh the videos are awesome! He is so sweet. Love the outfit! Although we didn't have as rough of a course in the NICU I can totally understand that willingness to do anything that will help him get home faster! so bring on the g-tube if it means him coming home soon! Life will be so much better then.
